I hope everyone had a safe and happy new year. Right after the new year season, many people have colds, coughs, sneezes and a multitude of problems with their health.
Lung issues and stomach problems seem to manifest this time of the year. In Chinese medicine, the emotions effected of course are sadness, grief and worry. People are worried about how they’re going to pay for all the Christmas gifts they put on their charge cards. They’re sad that the holidays are over and/or that they’re not surrounded by loved ones like you’re supposed to be.
This is the season when many people get depressed. It has to do with the fire element in the heart. If you’re sad, worried and or depressed, there are things you can do to change things.
As you open your heart and bring in respect for yourself and others – be honorable in all of your actions – you’ll start improving the fire element – and your heart. During winter, people forget to drink water and nourish the kidneys. Winter is associated with the kidneys. If you’re eating potatoes, eat sweet potatoes. Start putting plums and pears into your diet… have more soups. Keeping ourselves balanced this time of the year is very important because our energies internalize. More than normal, we need meditation and lots of sleep. Go to bed early and wake up early.
That will help balance the kidneys and water element. As I mentioned, the lungs have to do with sadness and grief. Many people are experiencing this at the darkest time of the year. But now that the solstice has passed, it’s getting lighter and lighter in the northern hemisphere.
We will start to lighten up internally and externally. As I mentioned, the lungs have to do with sadness and grief. The positive side is valor and courage. Moving forward with your projects, moving forward into the new year.
