The End of my Garden
Florida is getting hot. The temperature has been
in the nineties just about every day, and the
rains haven’t come yet. My organic veggie garde
has gotten fried from the sun. This isn’t anything
new, it happens every year around the end of May
and the first few weeks in June. Now my attention
is on the mango tree, the papayas and bananas
which are coming soon. Summer is the time when
South Florida produces a lot of delicious fruits.
The key to all that wonderful fruit is to eat it
in moderation. I learned this on more than one
occasion.
Back in the late eighties, my Master asked me if I
would be willing to move to Caracas, Venezuela to
teach a group of fifty meditation students some of
the advanced spiritual work. I asked him when he
wanted me to go and, he said, In three days. My
first reaction was to freak out, but then I said I
would go. At that time, Caracas was much safer and
a beautiful tropical paradise. When I arrived, the
students were anxious to learn and have me work on
them and their families. They set up a treatment
facility for me in the meditation center where we
worked and studied together, exploring spiritual
growth. I was delighted to be in the tropics and
came home one day with a big bag of mangoes. I had
a big glass of mango juice after every patient.
Oops! I had no idea what mango juice would do to
one’s system if they drank too much. It ran
through me like a freight train.
I had another experience when I was living in the
Hawaiian Islands. The place where I lived had over
a hundred banana trees on the property and,
sometimes, I’d eat up to a dozen in a day. Oops
again. I got so spaced out from all the sugar! I
had no energy when my Master came to visit and
told me to get off the island ASAP. I was yin out.
I had too much coldness in my body causing
stiffness, cramps, and tiredness. Luckly, I got
off the island and soon recovered.
One of the hardest lessons to learn is moderation.
It makes no difference if it’s in exercise, diet,
or your sexual activity. We all want to grow
mentally, physically, and spiritually, and it
takes a good teacher and practice. That’s why, I
put together the Qi Gong Inner Circle to share the
teachings and increase our awareness on all levels.
