The New Moon on Monday, 4th July 2016, is in
Gemini. It represents the end of one cycle and the
beginning of a new 28-day cycle; we have 12 moons
in a calendar-year. This is the ideal time to make
a fresh start and declare your independence. Make
a list of the things you want to get done in the
next two weeks before the Full Moon. You wouldn’t
start a trip if you had no idea where you were
going. Your to-do list will give you a map of what
needs to be started now and what needs to be
finished. The New Moon is the perfect time to get
the ball rolling in the right direction.

The next Full
Moon is on the 19th of July, it’s called the Buck
Moon or Thunder Moon by the early Native
Americans. Bucks begin to grow new antlers at this
time. On the other hand, it was also known as the
Thunder Moon because thunderstorms are so frequent
during this month. The Native Americans did not
record time by using the months of the Julian or
Gregorian calendar, but kept track of time by
observing the seasons and lunar months.
Many cultures throughout the world have Thunder
Gods and strongly believe around thunder and
lightning. Some Japanese parents tell their
children to hide their bellybuttons during
thunderstorms. This is due to a folk belief that
Raijin is sometimes credited with eating the
navels or abdomen of children when it thunders.
This year, the 4th of July, the Independence Day,
and the New Moon all arrive today. Set your goals,
begin your new projects, and declare your
independence from procrastination, laziness, and
sloth.
