- Yesterday afternoon My Host Teresa’s friend Judy arrived at the house and although it was midday and quite hot we decided to walk down to the Beach. After about an hour and a half we had to get out of the sun so we stopped at a quaint little coffee shop to chat. Judy began to tell me that in the past she did a lot of studies with some important Tibetan Buddhist teachers, but now her boyfriend insisted that she burn all of her books on Buddhism and return to her Catholic roots! He told her that the church relates those studies to Paganism and believes that she was being influenced by the devil! I wondered why the church would have ever said that? They actually didn’t, but when someone wants to control another person’s life and thoughts they make up things and try to start conspiracy theories. It invokes fear and then they pull the “Holier than thou card!”
- I remember when I started my Clinic years ago, a Priest who had a bad back was coming in every week for a few months for treatment. One day he stopped by and said he had to stop getting treatments because his Superior told him that Acupuncture was Forbidden by the church and the Needles were evil! This really didn’t make much sense, so we decided to do some research into what he claimed. We went to the Medical Library at the University of Miami and with some help from the librarians we found some interesting and rare information in the Chinese Culture section.
- It seems that many years ago a group of people affiliated with the church were sent to China to sell Western Medicine. When the Chinese rejected their offers, the unsuccessful sales trip to promote Western Medicine was reported and Acupuncturist was considered as evil since then! Through the ages Conspiracy Theories are made up to promote someone’s agenda but it’s not necessarily true, accurate or in the interest of the masses! Unfortunately this still goes on today.
